Ubuntu server Raspberry Pi headless no ssh access after fist boot

I'm trying to install Ubuntu server on my CM4 module.

Tried various methods. The thing boots. Ssh is enabled (port is open) I can connect to the thing.

This thing drives me nuts.

I have no keyboard no mouse and no screen rn. I need this to boot and let me in to do the stuff I need to do

I've set up a user and password in the pi flasher. The user seems to be created but the password is not set or valid (somehow)

I can ssh to the machine but I always get a password denied response.

Default password pi raspberry isn't working. No password ain't working

If I flash ubuntu server with bake a etcher it's the same. Ubuntus docs tellme the user is ubuntu and the password is also ubuntu.

I still can not login to this darn Linux.

Tried fiddling with the cloud init stuff but that didn't help either.

Why isn't this easy as I would change the default PW in the first place anyway. Why is there enema password in the first place. Security?

Any tips how I can get into this dran machine without breaking my brain in half ....

Ps: I only have a Mac with its kindergarten operating system......

Thx 🙏😊
